Astronomers and physicists have suspected for almost 40 years that diamonds are raining down on Uranus.

The hypothesis is that extreme heat and pressure thousands of kilometers below the surface of the ice giant break down hydrocarbon compounds, compressing carbon into diamonds that then rain down deeper into the planet's core.

Uranus is depicted on this charm spinning on its side, with its rings (less famous than those of Saturn).
